Rare 7-Foot Snake Found Slithering In Homeowners Couch

A homeowner in Chula Vista California received a slithery surprise when he lifted up his couch cushion to find a giant 7-foot snake!

In the video above, Trejo is holding the snake up to show the camera how long it is. The snake is seen lunging toward him trying to bite. “He didn't get my skin, but he actually got the lining of my shirt,” Trejo said.

Alex Trejo owns So-Cal Rattlesnake Removal and gets calls like that all the time, but even he was surprised when he found the Vietnamese blue beauty rat snake coiled up right behind the cushion.

“This guy calls me, is pretty frantic and he's like, 'There's a snake in my couch," Trejo said. "I literally, lift the cushion and there this giant 7-foot Vietnamese blue beauty rat snake just coiled up right behind the cushion."

The Vietnamese blue beauty rat snake is a rare find. It is suspected that the snake escaped its owner and found its way into this new home.

Alex Trejo said, “You'd be more lucky to find a Rolex sitting on the ground than a snake like this."

This breed of snake comes from Asia and can grow up to 8-feet long. There is no way this snake was wandering around California, as its breed thrives in tropical weather. It belongs to someone who keeps it in a controlled environment.

These kinds of snakes are not venomous. A bite would not kill you but would be very painful.

Alex Trejo was on this morning with Dwyer and Michaels and said, "Snakes are actually not aggressive, especially rattlesnakes, they are just defensive. They fight when they are in fear that they might die."

Since the Vietnamese blue beauty rat snake thrives in tropical weather, being outside of its controlled climate for a few days took a toll. Trejo says it now has a respiratory infection. “I have a very good friend who deals with these exotic animals and he's treating the snake right now. We really are keeping our fingers crossed hoping the snake makes it.”

Where this snake came from, and who it belongs to is still a mystery.
