A Masked “Batman” Is Hunting Motorcycle Thieves And Taping Them To Poles In Mexico

Mexico has a vigilante who's running around and has become the subject of a police manhunt in Jalisco, after tracking down motorcycle thieves, beating the hell out of them, and then leaving them taped to a lamppost for police to find.

The incidents began on June 13th, in Lagos de Moreno, and came out to five cases for police to investigate over a span of 10 days. Every time, police found the suspected thieves were found taped to poles with some heavy-duty duct tape, while the stolen motorcycles were parked right next to them.

Pictures shared show the men restrained, with cat whiskers drawn on their faces and the word "ratero" written on their foreheads, which translates to "thief" in Spanish. One of the incidents had two men taped back-to-back to a lamppost beneath a bright pink warning sign.

The vigilante has been dubbed "Batman of Lagos de Moreno," and is known to operate under the cover of darkness and appears to leave the motorcycles next to the thieves to give police the evidence they need to make an arrest.

Despite the public supporting this "Batman", police are treating the restrained men as victims rather than criminals. State Security Secretary Juan Pablo Hernandez said authorities are actively searching for the vigilante and have identified two vehicles that may be linked to the attacks.

Investigators are also trying to determine whether the incidents are the work of a lone individual or a larger group.
