North Dakota Hotel Caught Washing Bed Sheets in Guest Hot Tub
Guests at the Expressway Suites in Fargo got more than they bargained for during their stay, catching a hotel employee washing bed sheets in the hot tub. Yes, the same one guests use to relax in.
A Soapy Situation at Expressway Suites
The incident happened at the hotel on 17th Ave. S., when a family spotted an employee dumping sheets into the bubbling water and stirring them around with a broom. They filmed the whole thing and posted it online, where it quickly gained attention.
“At first, I thought maybe the hot tub was down, the drain was broken, they were trying to soak up the water, but then he started adding more in there and I was like what is going on?” said guest Alex Kenmille.
“Are We Sleeping on Those Sheets?”
Alex and her family said they were “disgusted” after realizing what they were seeing. “That’s disgusting, like, are you kidding? Are we sleeping on those sheets? I was really disgusted,” she said.
When the family called the front desk for answers, hotel staff claimed the sheets were already clean and were only placed in the hot tub to remove small stains. “The sheets are put into the hot tub, and it gets out tiny little stains, then the hot tub is drained. It is really heavily cleaned by a huge deep cleaner,” an employee said in a recorded call.
Hotel management later explained that this was a “last-resort” method for stained linens that were set to be thrown out—and admitted the staff member shouldn’t have done it in front of guests.
Health Officials Step In
Fargo Cass Public Health confirmed its Environmental Health Division is now investigating.
Even though hot tubs are heavily chlorinated, due to the high presence of bodily fluids, they can create a breeding ground for bacteria. As one guest, Amy Vandal, bluntly put it: “Just sitting in a hot tub, with the heat, your skin will literally just come off... you’re like deshedding.”
So while most hotel guests are looking for bubbles and relaxation, these ones got bubbles and bacteria instead.
