Police Seize Nine Firearms After New Hampshire Shooting Incident
A man was taken into custody late Monday night following a shooting incident in the woods near North Road and Route 101.
Brentwood New Hampshire Man Arrested After Gunfire in Local Woods
Brentwood police reported that at approximately 11:30 p.m., an officer patrolling the area discovered an abandoned vehicle close to a wildlife management zone. While investigating the vehicle, the officer heard gunshots and called for backup.
“When another officer arrived on the scene, both officers heard additional gunfire, some of which sounded rapid or possibly from automatic weapons,” said Lt. Justin Doty of the Brentwood Police Department. This led to a request for assistance from other local agencies and New Hampshire State Police, who helped manage traffic in the area.
Making Contact With The Man
Law enforcement quickly established a perimeter and identified the individual in the woods. Officers made contact with the man via phone and a PA system, urging him to come out of the woods, which he did without any resistance.
What Was The Man Doing?
“The man had been shooting at a small tree and the ground nearby,” Doty explained. Officers confiscated nine firearms from him. While discharging firearms in the area is not prohibited, the timing and nature of the situation led to his arrest. He was released shortly after.
Authorities have not disclosed the man's identity, but he is currently facing charges for reckless and disorderly conduct, with the possibility of additional charges. The man was alone at the time of the incident and had no connection to the abandoned vehicle found earlier.
“There was no danger to the public, but given the circumstances, charges were necessary,” Doty added.
Further details will be shared as the investigation progresses.
