Davenport Man Accused of Threatening To Stab Vape Shop Employee

A Davenport man has been charged after police say he threatened a vape shop employee with a knife during an alleged robbery late last year.

According to court documents, officers responded to Essentials Vape, located in the 1400 block of West Locust Street, shortly before 5 p.m. on Dec. 30 after receiving a report of a robbery.

Investigators allege that 46-year-old Ryan Smith went behind the store counter, shoved an employee and threatened to stab them during the incident.

Police say that as Smith attempted to leave, the employee locked the business's front door from behind the counter. Court records state Smith then demanded the door be unlocked and again threatened to stab the employee.

The employee eventually unlocked the door, allowing Smith to leave the store before fleeing the area, according to investigators.

Authorities said Smith was known to the business as a frequent customer and had previously used the store's customer rewards program.

Smith was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Scott County Jail. Jail records show he later posted a $50,000 bond on Wednesday afternoon.
