Dispute Turns Violent

The incident happened in January when Irvine allegedly became upset over her husband’s lack of interest in sex. Prosecutors said she accused him of pleasuring himself instead of being intimate with her. She then grabbed and twisted his genitals while he was lying in bed, causing what police later described as a “significant” injury.

Irvine called authorities herself, telling them she had attacked her husband and there was “a lot of blood.” When officers arrived, she allowed them inside and admitted she had injured him.

Husband Refuses to Press Charges

David Irvine was taken to the hospital, where doctors stitched a laceration to his scrotum. Despite the injury, he declined to give a formal statement to police and refused to cooperate with the investigation. The couple, who have been married for 14 years, are still together, and Mr. Irvine was present in court for his wife’s sentencing.

Prosecutors did not request a restraining order, as Mr. Irvine made it clear he did not want one. The couple also declined to speak publicly about the case.

Sentenced to Supervision and Addiction Support

At Hamilton Sheriff Court, Sheriff Kevin McCallum sentenced Irvine to one year of supervision and ordered her to work with addiction services, citing her struggles with alcohol. While acknowledging the seriousness of the injury, he opted not to impose unpaid work or a harsher penalty.

“She regrets what happened that night,” defense attorney Andy Iles told the court.

Sheriff McCallum said he would not go into the case’s explicit details but recognized it had caused “much embarrassment” for both parties.
