Grocery Store Owner Fed Up After “Steak-in-Pants” Theft
A family-owned market in Aventura is on high alert after a shoplifter was caught on camera hiding expensive cuts of meat inside his pants. The incident occurred at Kosher Kingdom, where surveillance footage captured a man stuffing steak and wine into oversized trousers.
A Big Pants Theft
Store owner Phil Einhorn was stunned by the suspect's boldness. The video shows the man waiting for an employee to pass before shoving a $100 "cowboy steak" into his pants.
"He came over here, looked around to see if anybody was looking and he shoved it in his pants," Einhorn said. The owner noted the suspect wore specialized clothing: "(They’re) big, big, big pants. I think they’re, like, made for stealing. They’re blocked at the bottom, so it doesn’t go through."
The Confrontation
When confronted, the man initially surrendered one steak, but the staff soon realized he had much more hidden away. "We were shocked, that’s why, when he gave back the one steak, I thought, ‘OK, I got it back, what he stole,’" Einhorn recalled. "And then when we found out there was this thing in his pants, it was unbelievable. It’s just like shocking."
Recovery and Warning
Employees followed the man to a nearby parking lot, where they managed to recover a brisket and bottles of wine. While the suspect fled before police arrived, Einhorn hopes the clear video footage leads to an arrest.
With rising costs hitting the industry, Einhorn emphasized that small businesses cannot afford these losses. "Meat prices are continue to go up. It’s not us that’s raising it. It’s the whole industry," he explained. "We want to let people know that you can’t come in and steal, it’s not right. We’re a family business trying to make it, so three generations."
