Cop Arrested After Claiming Overtime When He Was With His Girlfriend, Who Was His Boss
Every company out there has an overtime workers either love or don't. Some don't approve any. Some say if you answer one phone call on Sunday, even if for five minutes, you log yourself for 2 hours at time and a half. One police department in Florida is having to clarify their overtime policies and applicable moments.
Jacksonville Sheriff T. K. Waters announced at a press conference that officer Christian Madsen was arrested.
“As we have said many times before, no one is above the law,” he said.
Sheriff Waters said that many of the overtime hours were clocked in meeting with Patrol Support Division Chief Jaime Eason, his boss, though the meetings were typically outside of work.
What was admitted later was that Waters and Eason were in a romantic relationship, and the meetings were in that matter.
“I’m very disappointed. I mean, she knows that. We talked. I’m very disappointed, but at the same time, business goes on. We have to take care of business,” Waters said.
Department nepotism policy prohibits employees in relationships from being in a position that would lead to potential conflicts or compromise the best interests of the agency.
Employees who are in a relationship are supposed to immediately notify superiors so conflicts don't arise.
“After a long conversation in my office, she made the decision to resign her appointment and now there’s an administrative process in place that I won’t discuss great details,” Waters said.
Waters thanked the officers who investigated the situation, and said they will always adress internal incidents that threaten public trust.
“When someone messes it up then we have to address it. So, we’ve done that. I’m telling the public about it now because I think it’s important for them to know and now we’re going to move on and continue with the business of the sheriff’s office,” he said.
