Altercation Outside Clearwater Business

According to investigators, Platthy was stationed outside the business early Friday evening, acting as a sign spinner in his costume near a busy roadway. Several juveniles reportedly rode by on bicycles, sparking an interaction with Platthy, who police say had prior disputes with the same group.

Dispute Turns Physical

Police reports state that Platthy waved the riders over while the store’s owner was also present outside. As the owner attempted to speak with the group, one juvenile tried to leave on his bike. The store owner grabbed the bike’s handlebars to prevent being struck. At that moment, officers allege Platthy approached from behind and put the young rider in a chokehold.

The victim told police he was unable to breathe for several seconds before Platthy released him. Law enforcement was called shortly afterward, leading to Platthy’s arrest.

Felony Arrest and Criminal History

Platthy faces a felony charge of battery by strangulation. Officers noted in their report that he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time and declined to give a statement. He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail, where he spent two days before posting a $10,000 bond. A judge has since ordered Platthy to avoid all contact with the victim.

Court records show Platthy has an extensive criminal background, including convictions for burglary, drug possession, and multiple battery offenses. In 2013, he was convicted of sexual battery and served six years in prison, which led to his designation as a registered sex offender. He most recently spent 30 months behind bars before his release in October of last year.
