The TSA recently stopped a 91-year-old woman with a SWORD, hidden inside a cane.  You're not allowed to have those on planes.

TSA Issues Holiday Travel Reminder on Prohibited Items at Denver International Airport

As the holiday season approaches, Denver International Airport (DIA) is preparing for a surge in travelers, with more than 1 million passengers expected to pass through security between December 19 and the New Year. In anticipation of this busy period, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is offering guidance on items travelers can and cannot bring through airport security checkpoints.

The Most Unusual Find

At a media briefing on Thursday, TSA officials shared examples of frequently confiscated items, some of which were recently discovered, while others were seized in previous months. One of the most unusual finds was a cane sword confiscated last Saturday from a 91-year-old woman. While the cane appeared to be a standard walking aid, it concealed a large blade inside. The weapon was detected during routine X-ray screening.

“TSA agents discovered the cane sword when the woman’s cane went through the X-ray machine. It looks like a typical cane, but upon closer inspection, the blade inside was revealed,” said Lorie Dankers, a TSA spokesperson. “This type of item is commonly seen at flea markets, and travelers may unknowingly bring them through security.”

Dankers emphasized that many travelers are unaware of the restrictions on such items. She explained that items like cane swords, along with pepper spray, martial arts equipment for children, blades, and power tools, are frequently confiscated at checkpoints. She also reminded travelers that tools longer than 7 inches are not permitted.

Seeing A Rise Of Small Weapons

TSA has also observed a rise in the number of stun guns, especially pink models, being brought through security. These items are not allowed in carry-on luggage.

With DIA ranking in the top 10 U.S. airports for attempted firearm possessions, TSA officials reiterated the importance of thorough screening for all travelers and their belongings. “We screen every traveler, every item,” Dankers said. “Our officers have seen just about everything.”
Travelers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with TSA regulations ahead of time to ensure a smooth and safe journey during this busy holiday travel season.
