Florida Woman Caught Trying to Sneak Turtles Through Airport Security—In Her Bra
A traveler passing through Miami International Airport was stopped by TSA officers after they discovered two turtles hidden inside her bra.
Reptiles Discovered Wrapped in Gauze and Plastic
According to the Transportation Security Administration, the reptiles were wrapped in gauze and plastic in an apparent attempt to smuggle them through security.
TSA shared the discovery in a social media post Thursday, using the opportunity to remind passengers not to hide animals—or anything else—in unusual places on their bodies.
One Turtle Didn't Survive
Sadly, authorities confirmed that one of the turtles died due to the circumstances of the attempted smuggling. The surviving turtle was turned over to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for proper care and evaluation.
TSA emphasized that while small pets are allowed to travel through checkpoints, they must be handled appropriately and safely, not concealed. “We want you to be able to travel with your pets,” the agency said, “but please travel with them safely.”
TSA Urges Travelers to Follow Guidelines
In their post, TSA urged pet owners to check with their airline before traveling to learn the rules for bringing animals onboard. At security checkpoints, pets must be removed from carriers and carried through, not hidden under clothing.
“Friends, please – and we cannot emphasize this enough – stop hiding animals in weird places on your body,” the TSA wrote. “No, really.”
Not the First Time
This isn’t the first time turtles have been the subject of unusual airport behavior. Earlier this year, TSA officers at Newark Liberty International Airport reported finding a turtle hidden in a passenger’s pants.
Authorities continue to urge passengers to use common sense and follow all guidelines to ensure the safety of travelers, staff, and animals alike.
