WATCH: Styx ‘Return To Paradise’ Test Footage Filmed In The Quad Cities
In 1997, Styx released their second live album, Return To Paradise, featuring film and songs from their reunion tour with Tommy Shaw.
The footage for the live release would be filmed at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago, but today we learned (Thanks to Chris who sent this in to us) that the test footage was filmed somewhere a little more familiar.
Filmed during their stop on September 13th, 1996, you can watch all of the test footage filmed at the Mark Of The Quad Cities (Now Vibrant Arena at the Mark) just a week before the Rosemont Show, and it's a throwback.
You'll recognize a lot of the scenes, but another awesome part is seeing people wearing River Bandits gear, and other very Quad Cities logos.
The footage follows the band getting ready for their show, hanging in the back hallways of the arena. It also features all sorts of concert footage, and footage from the signing session afterward.
Check out this note from the band from that day:
Haven't we been here before... The Moline Airport DID look familiar. On a 3 day break before STYX performed in nearby Burlington earlier in the tour, I stayed here in Moline near this airport rather than fly home to CA. I went to every little and big antique store around, cruised the farm roads, and met lots of really nice local folks.Today as Dennis, Todd, Jeanne, Bubba and I stood outside waiting to load up the suitcases and head for The Jumer Hotel, we were greeted by many local people who already had their tickets and they wished us a great show tonight. This part of the country seems so unaffected by the social ills we all have come to accept in so many major cities. The day of our first show I left my computer case at the airport in Cedar Rapids and the hotel driver who picked us up assured me, "This is Iowa. Someone will turn it in, if it is not still sitting where you left it." Darned if he wasn't right... Looking forward to seeing thousands of these fine people tonight!
The lineup for the show featured Dennis DeYoung, James Young, Tommy Shaw, Todd Sucherman and Chuck Panozzo.
