Washington Thieves Use Stolen Excavator to Rip Out ATM: Police Seek Footage
Authorities in Puyallup are urging residents and businesses near East Main Street and River Road to review their surveillance footage as detectives hunt for suspects involved in a bold ATM heist. The crime involved a stolen excavator and an ATM belonging to BECU, according to police.
A Daring Daylight Heist
The theft occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Saturday near East Main Street and 15th Street Southeast. Witnesses called 911 after observing three individuals, wearing ski masks and dark clothing, using the excavator to tear apart the ATM kiosk. The trio loaded the dismantled machine into the bed of an older black Ford F-350.
Officers arrived just as the suspects were driving away. A brief pursuit ensued but was called off when the suspects crossed into Sumner, outside Puyallup’s jurisdiction.
Stolen Equipment and a Quick Getaway
Investigators later discovered the excavator had been taken from a construction site on River Road. It featured large rubber tires and was driven to the ATM location. Additionally, the getaway truck was found to have been stolen from Kitsap County, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
Appeal for Community Assistance
Authorities are asking anyone with information or surveillance footage that might help solve the case to contact the Puyallup Police Department. Tips from the community could be crucial in identifying and apprehending the suspects.
As detectives continue their investigation, residents are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
