Fake Dentist Arrested for Running Illegal Dental Practice from New York Home
The police in New York discovered a woman who was allegedly working as a FAKE DENTIST for eight years.
Authorities Discover Fully Equipped Dental Office in Bay Shore Residence
Suffolk County police have arrested a woman accused of illegally operating a dental practice from her home, leaving patients with serious health complications.
Investigators say 55-year-old Yolany Mejia Carranza was running an unauthorized dental office without proper training or a license, exposing unsuspecting patients to risky procedures. The case came to light after three patients stepped forward, with one reporting severe nerve damage and facial paralysis.
Alarming Discovery: A Fully Functional Dental Office
Carranza was taken into custody on Thursday around 3:15 p.m. at her residence on Heckscher Avenue in Bay Shore. Authorities conducted a search of the home and uncovered a fully operational dental setup, complete with equipment and supplies.
“She was performing complex dental procedures without the proper credentials,” Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina stated. “She did not administer general anesthesia, only local anesthetics, but the procedures she was performing required more than that.”
Investigators believe Carranza was not only running the illegal practice from her Bay Shore home but had previously operated a similar setup at 135 Broadway in Huntington Station.
A Decade of Unlicensed Practice
According to police, Carranza had been illegally practicing dentistry for approximately eight years, catering primarily to individuals with limited financial resources. Authorities suspect that many of her patients were members of the Hispanic community, including undocumented immigrants who may have lacked access to affordable dental care.
“We believe she targeted people who couldn’t afford licensed dental professionals, preying on those without health insurance,” Catalina added.
Community Shocked by the Arrest
Neighbors were stunned by the police presence in their typically quiet neighborhood. Alfredo Valle, who lives nearby, described the moment authorities raided Carranza’s home.
“It was pretty shocking,” Valle said. “I came home from work and saw about 15 police cars in the area. It was completely unexpected.”
He expressed concern for those who had received treatment. “I just hope the people who went to her are okay.”
In addition to discovering the makeshift clinic, police also found antibiotics sourced from overseas. Carranza has been charged with three counts of unauthorized practice of a profession. Authorities are urging any additional victims to come forward as the investigation continues.
