The Risk Of Getting Salmonella
Both the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) emphasize that consumers should avoid consuming any raw products made with flour due to the risk of Salmonella. The bacteria can be eliminated by proper cooking methods, including baking, frying, sautéing, or boiling. It is also crucial to clean all surfaces, hands, and utensils thoroughly after they come into contact with flour or dough.
Salmonella Infantis can cause symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain in healthy individuals. The CDC estimates that Salmonella causes about 1.2 million infections in the United States annually. Symptoms typically appear six hours to six days after infection and can last four to seven days. Those who believe they may have contracted a Salmonella infection should consult a physician.
General Mills is committed to ensuring the safety of its products and is taking this action as a precautionary measure to protect consumers.
