A nationwide food safety alert has been issued for a popular freezer staple, dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets, after concerns they may contain unsafe levels of lead.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service, the alert involves Great Value Fully Cooked Dino Shaped Chicken Breast Nuggets, a product sold at Walmart locations across the country.

What’s The Concern?

Federal officials say routine testing revealed the nuggets could contain elevated levels of lead, a toxic metal that can be especially dangerous for children and pregnant women.

Health experts warn that lead exposure can impact brain development, cause learning issues, and lead to other serious health problems, making this discovery particularly alarming given how commonly these nuggets are eaten by kids.

What Products Are Affected?

The alert specifically applies to:

  • 29-ounce bags of Great Value Dino Nuggets
  • Produced on February 10, 2026
  • “Best if Used By” date of February 10, 2027
  • Lot code 0416DPO1215

These products were distributed nationwide and sold at Walmart stores.

Why This Is An Alert

Officials did not issue a formal recall because the product is no longer being sold in stores. However, there is concern that many people may still have the nuggets sitting in their freezers at home.

What should you do?

The USDA is urging consumers to:

  • NOT eat the nuggets
  • Throw them away or return them to the store for a refund

So far, no illnesses have been reported, but officials say it’s better to be safe, especially when it comes to potential lead exposure.
