Utah Woman Strangles Roommate Over Dirty Dishes Dispute
Provo woman faces serious charges after physical altercation in shared apartment.
A heated argument between roommates in Provo, Utah, took a dangerous turn last week when one woman allegedly attacked her roommate over unwashed dishes. The suspect, 23-year-old Scarleth Lissette Vega Guiracocha, is now facing charges of aggravated assault and aggravated burglary following the incident.
Dispute Escalates Over Household Chores
According to the Provo Police Department, the confrontation began over a disagreement about dirty dishes. During interviews, both roommates confirmed the altercation stemmed from frustrations about plates being left unwashed. While such disputes are common among roommates, this one spiraled far beyond a verbal exchange.
Victim Reportedly Strangled and Kicked
Authorities say that Guiracocha followed her roommate into her bedroom during the argument. Despite being asked to leave, she allegedly forced her way into the room, pushed the victim to the floor, and then grabbed her by the neck and hair. The victim told police she was unable to breathe for approximately five seconds and had to physically strike Guiracocha’s hand to break free.
The suspect reportedly also attempted to kick the victim, who managed to defend herself during the attack. Officers observed visible injuries on the victim during their investigation.
Criminal Charges Filed Following Police Interviews
Guiracocha was taken into custody after the police conducted interviews with both individuals involved. She now faces felony charges of aggravated assault and aggravated burglary due to the alleged physical attack and unlawful entry into her roommate's private space.
While the victim did not require hospitalization, her condition has not been further updated. The incident serves as a reminder of how quickly everyday disputes can escalate, and why managing conflict in shared living environments is crucial.
For now, Guiracocha remains in custody as the legal process moves forward.
