Two Men Charged For Blinding A Man By Chucking Potatoes Out Of Moving Car
Have you ever wondered why mom said not to throw things in the house? Or why she would scold you for throwing rocks outside? Why you would hear the phrase “You’re going to take someone's eye out!” Well, turns out there is a reason parents say these things... Getting an eye taken out by flying objects really does happen.
The Incident
In Australia, two young men were accused of blinding a man after launching potatoes at him.
19-year-old Trent Philip Green and 20-year-old Brandon John Nutu Micicoi, both obtained numerous charges, including causing grievous bodily harm, after their alleged attack near Mettams Pool in Trigg, in Perth’s north, about 9.30 a.m. back in May.
Allegedly, potatoes were being thrown at people from a passing car on West Coast Drive.
Police reported that a 28-year-old man suffered a fractured arm and facial injuries which required surgery to remove his eye. (Yes, a flying potato can be this impactful)
Green and Micicoi briefly appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday but did not enter a plea.
The Investigation
The two young men were arrested this week after an investigator found that the men's dangerous act was not specifically targeted at the individual.
“It would appear those involved thought it would be fun to use potatoes as projectiles aimed at people minding their own business and enjoying our coastal strip,” he said. “This so-called fun has ended in tragedy, with the victim losing one eye.”
Charges Faced
Mr. Green is facing one count of acts likely to endanger the life, health, or safety of any person, as well as one count of possessing a prohibited weapon.
Mr. Micicoi has also been charged with one count of acts likely to endanger the life, health, or safety of any person, as well as three counts of common assault.
The matter was adjourned until November 17.
