The States with the Most Disciplinary Problems in Schools
Researchers have taken a look at discipline in schools across the United States. Compiling together their data, they created a Discipline Score for each state and ranked them based on that.
StartClass used six different metrics to get their scores:
- Percent of students arrested.
- Percent of students referred to law enforcement.
- Percent of students expelled.
- Percent of students with one or more out-of-school suspensions.
- Percent of students with one or more in-school suspensions.
- Percent of students put in seclusion.
The scores range from 0 to 6, with 6 indicating disciplinary problems. Here are the Top Ten states with their Discipline Scores:
- Illinois – Discipline Score: 4.56
- Missouri – Discipline Score: 4.48
- South Carolina – Discipline Score: 4.48
- Kansas – Discipline Score: 4.16
- Indiana – Discipline Score: 4.14
- Montana – Discipline Score: 4.1
- Connecticut – Discipline Score: 4.08
- Mississippi – Discipline Score: 4.04
- Oklahoma – Discipline Score: 4.02
- New Mexico – Discipline Score: 3.74
Iowa ranked in at #37 with a Discipline Score of 2.66.
