Texas Thief Incriminated Herself After Being Insulted on Facebook
A woman accused of burglarizing a Wichita Falls home while the owner was out of town has become the focus of this week’s Wichita Falls Area Crime Stoppers: Manhunt Monday. The suspect, identified as Misty Cape—also known as Misty Criddle—gained unexpected attention after allegedly admitting to the crime on Facebook.
Photos Spark Public Outcry Online
The incident came to light when Stephanie Davidson, a Wichita Falls resident, received alarming photos from her neighbors. She was preparing to board a flight home after a three-week trip when they sent her images of a woman appearing to steal from her property. Davidson quickly posted the images to the local “Wichita Falls Rants and Raves” Facebook page, hoping someone could help identify the suspect.
What happened next shocked the community. The woman in the photos, Misty Cape, allegedly commented on the post herself, acknowledging she had broken into Davidson’s home. “People need to mind their own business. This woman called me trash just because I broke in her house and stole some stuff. She don’t even know me,” Cape reportedly wrote.
Victim Returns to Devastating Scene
When Davidson arrived home, she found her house ransacked. She’s unsure how long Cape—or possibly others—had been coming and going from the property.
“I wanted to throw up. I wanted to be sick. It’s pretty bad,” Davidson said. “I think they’ve been in there probably the whole time I was gone… just taking stuff. It’s hard to tell what’s missing because it’s such a mess.”
Community Offers Support as Search Continues
Despite the emotional toll, Davidson says she’s grateful for the community's support. “You really do feel violated… when people go and dig through your property and steal from your kids, it’s hard,” she said.
Cape is currently wanted for theft of property valued between $2,500 and $30,000. Authorities are urging anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact Wichita Falls Area Crime Stoppers. Tips can be submitted anonymously.
