A DoorDash driver in Sweetwater, Texas, is being credited with helping authorities discover a hostage situation after making a delivery to a local motel Monday morning. The driver reported the incident to police around 11:30 a.m. after dropping off items at the Sweetwater Inn on Georgia Avenue. While police did not confirm the exact details of the order, they verified that the driver’s concerns prompted the call.
Witnesses Describe Concerning Order
According to witnesses who spoke with KTAB and KRBC, the suspect’s order included items such as trash bags, zip ties, bleach, and even a hatchet. These alarming details raised red flags and ultimately led to the driver contacting authorities.
Hostage Rescued, Suspect Arrested
When officers arrived at the motel room, they discovered a hostage being held inside. The individual was safely rescued, but police later confirmed the person was arrested due to an outstanding warrant unrelated to the situation.
Following the rescue, a brief standoff occurred between law enforcement and the suspect. Officers from both the Sweetwater Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety were involved in the response. The suspect was eventually taken into custody.
Suspect’s Identity Not Yet Released
Authorities stated that the suspect is a man from Snyder, Texas. While he was arrested on existing warrants in addition to charges tied to the hostage case, officials had not released his name or full list of charges as of Monday afternoon.
The case remains under investigation, and more details are expected in the coming days. Police credit the DoorDash driver’s quick thinking with helping bring the situation to light and ensuring the safety of the hostage.
