Texas Woman Accused Of Hurling 25-Pound Weight at Love Rival
A woman in Texas was accused of throwing a 25-pound gym weight at another woman that she suspected of being "involved with" her partner. Aralyn Martinez, 25, now faces a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following the January 6 incident.
Confrontation Over Personal Dispute
The altercation took place at a 24 Hour Fitness. According to the Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, Martinez became enraged after spotting another woman she believed was involved with her boyfriend. Investigators noted that the two women did not know each other and were simply both using the facility at the same time.
A Weight Used as a Weapon
Authorities allege that Martinez grabbed a 25-pound weight plate and charged at the woman. Cell phone footage reportedly shows Martinez threatening to drop the plate on the victim before throwing it at her head. Fortunately, the woman dodged the heavy object and avoided injury.
“Not very often with weights and not very often at a gym,” said Precinct 4 Capt. Juan Flores. “We do know a 25-pound weight, or any weight, can be a deadly weapon depending on where you hit the person.”'
Arrest and Legal Consequences
Bystanders eventually stepped in to de-escalate the situation. While Martinez initially fled the scene, she was later apprehended. She has been released on a $1,000 bond with strict orders to stay away from the victim.
