It has been confirmed that shots were fired around 8 A.M. Wednesday morning at Dixon High School. A confrontation had occurred between a student and the resource officer.

A male student had brought a gun to the school and at one point shot at the officer. The cop returned fire and was able to detain the suspect, who had received a non-life-threatening gunshot. The officer was not injured in the exchange.

So far the police believe he was acting alone and the students' safety is no longer threatened. All schools in Dixon, Illinois have been placed on lock down, but parents can pick up their children with I.D.
