The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities and Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management have released their lists of items you'll to make sure you're vehicle is ready for winter.
The Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management has also created a list for residents on both sides of the Quad Cities when it comes to being prepared at home. The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities has also created a home winter survival food and preparedness checklist. You can see items you'll need to be prepared for at home this winter below.
Before you even begin to build your vehicle's winter emergency kit, the Iowa Department of Transportation wants to remind you to have your vehicle winter-ready.
The Iowa Department of Transportation reminds motorists to bring their vehicle in for a winter tune-up, always make sure you have gas in your vehicle, replace those windshield wipers, and, if your car needs it, install winter tires for better traction in the snow. After you're done winterizing your vehicle, then make sure you have your emergency winter kit built and in an easy-to-reach spot in case you need to use it.
After your car is winterized, it's time to create your vehicle's winter emergency kit. You can purchase pre-built kits at stores like Walmart and Target, but they don't come with everything on this list. If you decide to buy a premade kit, make sure you add the missing items to your emergency kit right away.
Good luck and stay safe this winter, Quad Cities!
