Fulton’s New Welcome Sign Has Residents Weirded Out

A new “Welcome to Fulton” sign has caught the attention of people around Fulton, Illinois, and not exactly for the reason you might expect.

Residents have noticed that the new sign was placed in a rather unusual location: inside a cemetery.

What A Weird Spot For A Welcome Sign

Now, people are understandably a little confused and a little weirded out by the placement. A welcome sign is usually meant to greet people as they enter town, but putting one among the headstones has left some locals wondering, “Was this really the best spot?”

The sign has certainly become a conversation starter on the Facebook Page "Fulton IL Community Unfiltered," with people pointing out the strange location and joking about what kind of welcome visitors are getting when they first see it.

One comment says, "Looks like they are welcoming you to a town full of dead people."

Another says, "Welcome to Fulton, people are dying to get here!"

One commenter seems to have some insight on the sign, saying, "The stone belonged to the City of Fulton, and was used as a greeting upon crossing the bridge. The City gave it to Fulton Township as a donation to the Cemetery. We are using it as a greeting."

Of course, there may be a perfectly reasonable explanation for why the sign was placed there. But for now, the unusual location has Fulton residents doing a double-take, because nothing says “Welcome to Fulton” quite like being greeted by a cemetery.
