Let's face it: travel this summer is especially expensive. Gas is still through the roof, flights are getting canceled and rescheduled left and right. But you can create a staycation right at home.

Bring the Party Home

There are QC businesses that can help you plan this. First up for the kids' enjoyment is QC Little Tents EventsEach sleepover party with them includes the set up and take down of:

  • Teepee
  • Pillow beds/loungers
  • Plush blanket
  • Fitted top sheet
  • Bed tray
  • LED string lights
  • Decorative pillows and rugs
  • Garland and bunting
  • Customizable LED lights

On the form to request the party, you can even add on balloon garland and choose when you want them to come to take down the decor.

For adults, create an indoor oasis. Put up a hammock and set up your vacation villa vibe.

Food

When I'm on vacation, I love to try different food. If you're planning a staycation, you could indulge a bit and hire a personal chef to help you design the menu. This could be great for trying different flavors from around the world. Plate Me (also in the QC) has luxury charcuterie boards you can get.

Check Into A Local Hotel For A Couple of Days

It sounds basic but see what local hotel fits into your budget. I did this for my Sweet 16 with my friends and even though it was 3 minutes from my house, it felt like a vacation. There's the casino hotels nearby and check out some of them that have a pool, like these top-rated ones on TripAdvisor in Davenport that do have pools.

Of course, there are plenty of free and inexpensive things you can do in the Quad Cities this summer. Happy staycation-ing!
