Pilot Reports “Guy In A Jetpack” 3,000 Feet Over Los Angeles
It's possible there's a billionaire out there that's created sort of a flying suit. Hopefully this guy's out to fight crime, not take part.
American Airlines pilots flying into LAX called the tower around 10 miles away from the airport, because at 3,000 feet they saw something strange in the sky.
"Tower, American 1997, we just passed a guy in a jetpack," the pilot said in the recording.
The strange transmission's tapes were released, showing the conversation between the pilot and the tower.
Pilot: "Tower, American 1997, we just passed a guy in a jetpack."
Tower: "American 1997, OK, thank you. Were they off to your left or right side?"
Pilot: "Off the left side, maybe 300 yards or so, about our altitude."
The pilot said the man wearing the jetpack was about 300 yards from the plane. Later, a second pilot also reported seeing the man flying around with a jetpack.
Jetpacks have been seen in the last few years, but only at lower altitudes maybe reaching about 500 feet, like the guy who flew around the Statue of Liberty, never anything like 3,000 feet.
The investigation has been taken over by the FBI.
