Pennsylvania Woman Fakes Cancer, Scams Fiance Out of $40K
31-year-old Michelle Zipp of Bedford County, Pennsylvania is facing theft charges after she scammed her fiance out of $40,000, by telling him she had terminal cancer.
Zipp exploited the victim by saying she didn't have enough money for treatments and surgeries. Her boyfriend secured loans to help her make payments. At one point she had "nurses" contact the man and tell him that Zipp was in a medically induced coma.
"This is sometimes what happens when good people who want to help others fall victim to bad people who want to steal from others,” said Bill Higgins, Bedford County district attorney.
Zipp is charged with theft by deception.
