We’ve all been there: you’re at a packed sporting event, cheering for your team, when suddenly a "mystery scent" wafts over from the seat next to you. Usually, you just plug your nose and deal with it. But for fans of the Oshawa Generals, the team decided to step in and play referee for the locker room, and the results were predictably messy.

The "Stinky" Email That Set the Internet on Fire

It started with a simple email to season-ticket holders. Jason Hickman, the team’s director of ticket sales, sent out a note with "warm regards" that quickly turned cold. While it included standard advice like staying home if you're sick or using hand sanitizer, it took a sharp turn into personal territory.

The team asked fans to take a pregame shower, specifically if they had just come from the gym or did anything else that might produce body odor. Imagine opening your inbox to find your favorite hockey team suggesting you might need a scrub. (We find this hilarious)

"It Smells Like Cat Pee": Why the Team Spoke Up

You might wonder why a professional organization would risk offending its most loyal customers. According to Hickman, the complaints had reached a breaking point. He told local reporters that fans were constantly grumbling about their neighbors smelling like "cat pee" or having "bad breath."

Instead of tapping individuals on the shoulder, which Hickman admitted would be incredibly awkward, the team decided a "generic email" was the way to go.

The "Penalty" and the Public Apology

The internet, of course, did not stay quiet. After the story broke, the Oshawa Generals realized they might have overstepped. On Thursday, the team posted a cheeky retraction on social media, admitting they "took a penalty" on the situation.

"It’s not our place to overstep like we did," the post read, adding that they were hopeful they could "wash this one off." While the team has apologized, the commenters couldn't help but further roast the team on their losing record.
