Grand Robbery: Woman Used Fire Cracker To Steal Pizza Then Hijacks Cab
A woman in Winnipeg (Manitoba, Canada) tried to pull off an ultimate and dangerous getaway, all to steal a pizza.
The Great Non-Escape
The unidentified 31-year-old woman is charged with multiple offenses because she:
- Set off a firecracker in a crowded restaurant.
- Stole a pizza.
- Carjacked a taxi.
- Dragged the taxi driver.
Here's The Story
It all started at a restaurant on Osborne Street just south of River. A woman went into the restaurant demanding food, holding a firecracker as a weapon, police said.
When the restaurant workers dismissed her threats she lit the firecracker inside the restaurant. As it popped and fizzled loudly, she used it as a distraction to steal a pizza. (No one in the restaurant was injured)
What Happened Next?
After the pizza theft, it was time for her to make a bigger getaway in a taxi. But while seated in the taxi, she became belligerent and the driver asked her to get out. When the driver stepped out of the vehicle, the woman hopped into the driver's seat and hit the gas. The 54-year-old cab driver was dragged about 32 feet (10 meters) down the road.
Police Notified
After all this craziness the police were contacted. Officers spotted the stolen cab being driven in the West End of the city. They followed the cab until it became stuck in a snowbank.
The woman jumped out of the car and ran, but that was the end of her grand escape, and police caught her and made an arrest.
Police then linked her to the recent pizza robbery that happened earlier.
The Aftermath
The cab driver was taken to the hospital with upper-body injuries.
The 31-year-old woman is charged with two counts of robbery, possession of a weapon, and failing to comply with prior court orders and conditions
