Michigan Man Drives 700 Miles To Set Fire To Home Of Ex-girlfriend’s New Man
A Michigan man was arrested after he drove over 700 miles to Pennsylvania, to set fire to the home of a man who was talking to his ex. It wasn't a joke though. Six adults in the house were hospitalized with injuries, and two dogs died in the blaze.
Six Residents Escape, Two Dogs Killed in Devastating Blaze
A Michigan man is facing multiple charges, including six counts of attempted homicide, after allegedly traveling more than 700 miles to set fire to a Pennsylvania home. The attack, which authorities say was motivated by a personal dispute, left a residence in Bensalem completely destroyed and tragically took the lives of two family pets.
The fire broke out around 5:00 a.m. on February 10 on Merganser Way, prompting an urgent response from firefighters and police. According to Bensalem authorities, six adult residents managed to escape, with some jumping from second-story windows to avoid the flames. All six were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment of their injuries.
"The fire engulfed the entire structure, resulting in a total loss," police said. "Unfortunately, two dogs perished in the blaze."
Surveillance Footage Leads Investigators to Michigan
Following the fire, investigators determined that the blaze had been deliberately set. Surveillance footage from a nearby home captured a black sedan stopping near the residence just minutes before the flames erupted. The video showed an individual exiting the vehicle, walking toward the house, and returning 15 minutes later before driving away. Moments after the suspect fled, smoke and an explosion were visible on the footage.
Detectives utilized township cameras and Automated License Plate Readers (ALPR) to track the suspect’s movements. The investigation led authorities to a 2021 black Volkswagen Passat registered in Michigan, belonging to Brian Jones of Rockford. Further digging revealed that Harrison Jones, who lived at the same address, was the ex-boyfriend of a woman who had been communicating online with a 21-year-old man living in the targeted home.
Suspect Arrested with Burn Marks and Lock-Picking Tools
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Harrison Jones’s residence, where they found key evidence linking him to the crime. Authorities discovered lock-picking tools, a cell phone, a computer, and noted apparent burn marks on Jones’s arms.
Jones was arrested and charged with six counts of attempted homicide, arson, and risking catastrophe.
"The hard work and collaboration between multiple law enforcement agencies turned a grainy surveillance image into the arrest of a suspect who traveled over 700 miles to commit an act that nearly cost six lives," Bensalem police stated.
The case remains under investigation as authorities work to piece together additional details surrounding the attack.
