Child’s Frightening Claim Leads to Shocking Discovery

A routine night of babysitting took a terrifying turn when a caretaker in Great Bend discovered a man hiding under a child’s bed. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Monday in the 2000 block of Patton Road, according to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office.

The babysitter was putting the children to bed when one of them mentioned a “monster” lurking beneath their bed. Wanting to reassure the child, the babysitter looked underneath—only to come face-to-face with a real-life intruder. A struggle ensued, during which both the babysitter and one of the children were knocked over.

Suspect Identified as Former Resident with Restraining Order

Before authorities could arrive, the man fled the home. Investigators later identified him as a former resident who was legally barred from the property due to a protection-from-abuse order.

Deputies continued their search through the night and into the morning, eventually spotting the suspect near the residence. After a brief foot chase, they were able to take him into custody.

Formal charges are still pending. Authorities have not released the suspect’s name as they await official court proceedings.
