Three construction workers are heroes to not just a family they saved but their community after stepping up during an emergency.

Gabe Record, John Lewis, and Damian Pond, three employees with Leick Construction, were working when a residential home caught fire last Monday.

The men didn't waste a second, with Gabe rushing into the house with his shirt around his face, saving a mom, grandma, and a 4-year-old girl out of the first floor of the house.

It wasn't as simple as running in and pulling them out. Gabe has 2nd degree burns on 18% of his body. His hair, his arms, his biceps to his elbow. He'll be out of work for 2-6 months, and was going to the doctor's office Monday morning to find out if he needed a skin graft.

Gabe got the three family members out but was on his way to get emergency care, while John and Damian realized there was a boy on the second floor, trapped.

They saw a trampoline nearby, and moved it under the window he was near.

The kid jumped to safety, and John caught him.

“So I grabbed the trampoline, and me and another friend took and scooted it over to the window. It was black smoke, and we got him down… He jumped out the window [above] the trampoline, and once he hit the trampoline, I got him away from the building. And we got it up to the side and knew everybody was out at that point,” Lewis told First Alert 6.

We talked with Gabe Record this morning on his way to a doctor's appointment for the burns he got saving the family. You can hear the full interview here:
