Tyson Announces Joslin Plant Closure, 2,500 Employees Told Thursday Is Their Last Day

Tyson Foods announced to their staff at the Joslin processing plant that they would be shutting down.

The management sent out a notice to all of the employees at the Joslin location, telling them that their services would no longer be needed. For some employees, their last day was Thursday. For others, it's today.

The notice stated that job duties in harvest operations would end on August 13th, and duties in processing operations will end on August 14th.

The upside is, the employees will be compensated through October 12th.

KWQC talked with an employee who was at the plant for 11 years.

“The old CEO stepped down, a new CEO stepped in. He came here and evaluated our plant and he chose to close our plant without any notice for us, any notice for our union people. It’s just devastating. All these people without jobs,” said Rita Newton.

The Joslin factory employed around 2,700 employees, who are waking up this morning with no job to go to. Video from KWQC showed employees leaving the plant in the middle of the day after receiving the notice.
