What Happened In Edgewater Florida?
The incident occurred Sunday when Edgewater police responded to reports of a stabbing on 30th Street. Upon arrival, officers found that a woman had been attacked. Investigators say Hodge later returned to his home on Lime Tree Drive, where he was taken into custody.
Serious Wounds
According to the police report, Hodge's sister sustained serious injuries, including stab wounds to her face, mouth, and body. She was transported to AdventHealth New Smyrna for treatment. The altercation reportedly began when the sister asked Hodge to clean up spilled milk, prompting an argument that escalated into violence.
Hodge, who is diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, allegedly grabbed a knife and threatened to kill his sister. Witnesses told police they saw him attack her and heard him shout threats, including that he would stab her eyes out. One witness reported locking herself in a car to avoid being attacked when Hodge approached her in a threatening manner.
Speaking To Police
Hodge later told police he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, a result of his military service, and admitted to drinking four to five beers as a form of self-medication. He claimed to have "snapped" after his sister's request and said he blacked out during the incident, though he acknowledged some details provided by witnesses.
The investigation is ongoing, and Hodge remains in jail awaiting further legal proceedings.
