Police Arrest Angry Old Florida Man Who Was Threw 100’s Of Nails In The Road
Police in Florida have arrested a man after what deputies say was a routine of throwing roofing nails onto a neighborhood roadway.
Deputies said the investigation began on September 11th of last year when someone called to report that there were several nails scattered on the roadway across Miller Road and Lithia Center Lane, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Over the course of the next five months, there have been 27 other instances of multiple nails scattered in the street.
Several reports of damage to vehicles have been reported, with people even sending photos of nails in their tires ot the local news stations.
“I had three nails the first day. A week later, another one or two — and it was about a nail a week minimum,” one viewer told the local NBC affiliate, WFLA.
Eventually, investigators were able to determine that the suspect behind all of the nailings was driving a white pickup truck. It was on January 13th that they spotted a 2022 Toyota Tundra on the road.
Officers watched as the vehicle came to a stop, and the driver, 51-year-old Felix Uresti, got out and put a bunch of nails in the roadway.
Deputies searched his truck after stopping him and found a large bucket of nails in the back seat. They were the same roofing nails that had been recovered in all of the previous incidents.
Uresti was placed under arrest immediately, and charged with six counts of criminal mischief ($1,000 or more) and one count of throwing a deadly missile at or into a vehicle. He was also fined for violating Florida's littering laws.
After being arrested, Uresti told deputies someone has been following him and he's just frustrated with law enforcement.
“Throwing nails into the roadway is a deliberate and malicious act that puts innocent people in danger and carries serious consequences,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This was a senseless decision that endangered working families, children, and first responders when seconds matter most.”
