Florida Man In Banana Costume Arrested For Whipping Out His Banana
Crime news is always a little more fun this time of year because of these three words: Criminals in costumes.
Key West, Florida
A Massachusetts man was apprehended by Key West police after urinating on a public sidewalk while dressed in a banana costume. 20-year-old University of Miami student Kyle Mortimer tried to evade arrest after officers found him publicly relieving himself.
Respond To An Ap-PEEL-ing Call
According to reports, a Key West police officer responded to a call regarding a man in a banana costume urinating on the side of a building, ironically located opposite a line of porta-potties. Upon arrival at the scene, Officer Michael Chaustit spotted Mortimer, identified himself and proceeded to engage with him.
Ignoring the officer's approach, Mortimer, in his yellow fruity costume, fled towards Duval Street. A famous hotspot, Duval Street is the heart of Old Town Key West, housing over 40 bars, making it a likely location for festive Halloween shenanigans such as Mortimer's.
Mortimer's effort to dodge arrest involved zig-zag running patterns through the Old Town streets, however, he was soon apprehended by a second officer, who successfully 'grabbed him by the peel.' In a last-ditch attempt to resist arrest, Mortimer intertwined his fingers, preventing the application of handcuffs. This, however, was overcome by the diligent officers who managed to cuff and detain him.
Arresting Banana Man
Mortimer was finally arrested around 1:20 AM in front of Smokin' Tuna Saloon and taken to Old City Hall. Charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors, he is due for arraignment on November 16. Remarkably, his banana costume was still intact when he posed for his booking photo.
