Florida Man Games Return: This Outrageous Event Is Going Viral
Let the games BEGIN!
What Are the Florida Man Games?
The Florida Man Games are a quirky, irreverent athletic competition inspired by the "Florida Man" internet meme, featuring events like lawn mower racing, gator tossing, and pool noodle battles. Designed to poke fun at the state’s reputation for bizarre news stories, the games celebrate the chaotic, over-the-top antics associated with the infamous Florida Man.
This wild event includes challenges such as Human Beer Pong, the Evading Arrest Obstacle Course, and the Hurricane Party Prep: Grocery Aisle Brawl. Teams, often embracing exaggerated personas, compete for glory and the coveted snakeskin championship belt, all while raising money for the Jimmy Jam Community Outreach, a local charity supporting those in need.
The Ultimate Test of Florida Man Energy is Back In Elkton
The Florida Man Games have returned for a second round of wild, off-the-wall competition, bringing together fearless contestants from across the state to prove they embody the chaotic spirit of the infamous 'Florida Man.' With last year’s debut drawing massive attention, this year’s event has moved from downtown St. Augustine to the St. Johns County Fairgrounds, allowing for even more spectators, tailgating, and unpredictable antics.
A Lineup of Absurdly Florida-Inspired Events
Building on the success of its inaugural run, the games feature an even crazier lineup of competitions. Fan favorites like the Evading Arrest Obstacle Course and Beer Belly Sumo Wrestling return, while new additions such as the Hurricane Party Prep: Grocery Aisle Brawl and Human Beer Pong push the madness to the next level.
Teams from across the Sunshine State, from Fort Myers to Pensacola, are battling for bragging rights and the legendary snakeskin championship belt. Defending champions, Team Hanky Spanky from St. Augustine, are back to protect their title, while an all-female team, the Ball Busters, is looking to shake things up. One of this year’s newest competitions involved a "Florida Man Baby Daddy" mannequin, a sports bra slingshot, and a water balloon—the very challenge that secured Hanky Spanky’s second championship victory.
Born to Be Florida Man
Among the competitors is 29-year-old Croix Bruns, a technician who takes pride in his Florida roots—and the tattoos to prove it. He stepped up for the weaponized pool noodle event, fully embracing the spirit of the games.
“A true Florida Man doesn’t train for this,” Bruns declared. “He’s born ready. Every year, a new legend rises.”
Bruns believes the games capture something no other competition does. “We’ve got the Olympics, sure, but they don’t have gator tossing,” he joked. “They don’t have a contest where you’ve got to hold your beer and fight at the same time.”
A Full-Throttle Florida Experience
The event isn’t just for the competitors—it’s a full-fledged spectacle for fans, too. Attendees can get up close and personal with alligators from Gatorland, test their balance on a mechanical gator, and enjoy over-the-top entertainment, including a performance from the "Midget Wrestling Warriors" and lawnmower racing led by NASCAR driver Jeffrey Earnhardt.
Announcer Che Durena summed up the games as the ultimate Florida experience. “It’s exactly what I expected—wild, grimy, extravagant, and completely ridiculous. It’s people day drinking, getting sunburned, and partying like only Florida knows how.”
The legend of Florida Man first gained national fame in 2013, thanks to viral headlines like “Florida Man Bites Dog to ‘Establish Dominance’” and “Florida Man Tried to Pay for McDonald’s With Weed.” Now, the Florida Man Games have taken that wild reputation and turned it into an annual tradition, ensuring that each year, a new Florida legend is born.
