Florida Man Arrested After 100 MPH Chase In A Google Street View Car

MIDDLETOWN, Indiana

A man who has a Florida driver's license was arrested after he led the Middletown Police Department on a high-speed chase in a car belonging to Google Street View.

The incident took place on Monday evening, at around 5:00 p.m., after Chief Landon Dean saw a vehicle driving past several others in front of Shenandoah High School at an extremely high speed, heading westbound on US 36. He observed that the car was going at more than 100 miles per hour.

Upon closer inspection, Dean noticed that the speeding vehicle was a Google Mapping car equipped with several 360 degrees cameras mounted on its top. Dean started to follow the car, catching up with it in the 8500 block of West US 36 in Henry County. The Google car continued to drive recklessly at high speeds, disregarding the other vehicles and refusing to stop.

How Long Was The Chase?

The chase went on for several miles, even crossing over to Madison County. The Google car turned south off of US 36, just east of Pendleton, and the driver eventually lost control of the car, causing it to veer into a yard and then into a creek where it got stuck. The police took the driver into custody after the crash for resisting law enforcement, which is a Level 6 Felony.

Why Didn't The Driver Stop?

The driver, who remains unnamed by WRTV, said that he was scared to stop. At this time, he has not been formally charged, and potential charges will come from the Henry County Prosecutor's Office. After the incident, the suspect was taken to Henry Community Health Hospital in New Castle for further evaluation before being transferred to the Henry County Jail.
