12-Year-Old Florida Boy Pulled A Grown Man From A Pool And Saved His Life

Jason Piquette is a behavioral therapist who trains young adults to gain strength through real-life situations. But during a swimming session at Austen MacMillan's family pool, it was Jason who needed rescuing.

Twelve-year-old Austen showed remarkable strength and pulled Jason out of the pool when he slipped underwater.

Unfortunately, Jason still wasn't breathing when Austen pulled him out of the water, so the young boy stepped up and performed CPR, just as he had seen on TV.

Quick Thinking

"I pulled him out of the water to the shore over there," Austen said. "I gave him CPR. I started doing this (where did you learn to do that?) I just saw it on TV."

Austen's quick thinking saved Jason's life, and his bravery impressed his family and friends.

Austins Parents React

"I heard my son screaming frantically in a way that I had never heard before, so I dropped all the groceries and ran through the gate," Andrew MacMillan said.

Andrew MacMillan, Austen's dad, called 911 while he helped Jason's breathing stabilize. Austen's CPR technique was flawless, and Jason credits him with his survival.

Both families were proud of Austen's quick actions and calmness during a traumatic event. Austen's mother, Christina, is particularly proud of her son's bravery and is grateful that he was able to help someone in need.

"Don’t freak out, don’t panic, and try to learn from the situation and help the person," Austen said.

Organized CPR Class

As a family, the MacMillans have organized a CPR class for friends and family to spread awareness about the importance of learning basic first aid.

"I wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for him. He is an absolute hero and he always will be," Jason said.

As the two hugged in gratitude and relief, Jason thanked Austen for his bravery and remarked on his exceptional heroism.

The situation was one in which the student became the teacher, and both families will remember Austen's quick thinking and Jason's miraculous rescue.
