Colorado Men Arrested for Using Air Cannon to Smuggle Drugs into Federal Prison
Two men in Louisiana were caught attempting to smuggle $200,000 worth of contraband into a federal prison, using a CANNON to get it over the wall.
Bold Smuggling Attempt Foiled in Louisiana
Authorities in Louisiana have arrested two Colorado men for an elaborate attempt to smuggle drugs and contraband into a federal prison using an air-powered cannon. The Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office (GPSO) reported that the suspects planned to launch the illegal items over the prison’s security fence.
Smuggling Scheme Involved Meth and Tobacco
According to the GPSO, the duo attempted to transport an estimated $112,000 worth of tobacco and $89,500 worth of methamphetamine into the facility. Their device, a cannon powered by compressed air, was capable of launching items over 350 feet—easily clearing the prison perimeter. Authorities intercepted the plan before the contraband could reach inmates.
Suspects Arrested, ICE Places Detainer
The suspects, identified as 18-year-old Jose Francisco Herrera Munoz and 19-year-old Angel Gonzales Gutierrez, both from Greeley, Colorado, now face serious charges, including Attempting to Introduce Contraband into a Penal Institution and Attempting to Distribute Methamphetamine. Additionally, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a detainer on Munoz, as he is in the country illegally.
The GPSO, in coordination with ICE, continues to investigate the case. Officials have not disclosed whether the suspects had connections to inmates inside the facility or how long they had been planning the operation.
