Mounties in British Columbia say a driver who was driving in a dangerous manner was pulled over, and not only did he tell them he was breaking the law, he was lying about which law he was breaking.

The driver, a 56-year-old from Kelowna, BC, was pulled over by officers around 10:30am on January 6th, after passing an officer who observed that the man had a glass pipe in his mouth.

When the man was pulled over, he claimed he was "Only smoking marijuana," according to the statement given by Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.

“Perhaps he didn’t realize it’s illegal to be impaired by any drugs while driving – including cannabis,” said McLaughlin.

RCMP officers pulled him from the vehicle, and after searching, found no signs of marijuana in the vehicle. After the search, the driver admitted he had smoked crack "earlier" in the day.

Police gave the 56-year-old man a sobriety test, which he performed horrifically on, and then a blood sample was taken to the hospital for some testing.

Mounties impounded the vehicle and handed the man a 24-hour driving suspension, and a ticket for failing to produce a driver's license.

Depending on what the blood test shows, they may pursue criminal charges as well.

“Impairment in any form is unacceptable, and that includes prescription and recreational drugs,” said McLaughlin. “You need to drive sober all of the time, and especially in slippery, winter conditions."
