Man Nearly Escaped Death When A Dryer Exploded At Laundromat
When tragedy struck at a laundromat in Spain recently, one man was almost in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Dryer Explosion
An unlucky laundry mistake left in a customer's pocket almost cost someone their life. The video footage, which surfaced this week, was filmed in March at a port city called A Coruna and captures the dramatic events that followed a patron's seemingly simple mistake.
The footage shows the man leaving the store with bags of his laundry when, seconds later, the dryer explodes in a ball of flames, almost blowing up the whole laundromat. Shockwaves from the explosion shattered the store window and ripped the laundromat sign off the building.
What Caused The Explosion?
According to reports, it was a lighter, which had been inadvertently left in a pant pocket by a customer, that caused the terrifying incident. People are being warned to take extra care when using laundromats, as even a small mistake can have drastic consequences. The dangers of improperly disposing of hazardous objects such as lighters and batteries must never be underestimated.
Always Check Your Pockets
Many of us live busy lives and our pockets can end up a total disaster. From forgotten keys to countless pieces of gum, our pockets contain many things we'd prefer not to think about, but one common object that is often overlooked is the small cigarette lighter.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from NSW Fire and Rescue recently spoke to Yahoo News Australia, warning that many people may not realize the potential fire hazard posed by the items they store in their pockets.
Butane, the gas typically used in cigarette lighters, is highly flammable and, when exposed to certain conditions, can cause fires. Mr. Dewberry said it's essential that we remember to check our pockets for any batteries, lighters, or power banks that we may have accidentally put through the washing or drying cycles. "These items can do more harm than put fluff all over your clothes," he warned.
With our lives only becoming increasingly reliant on digital devices, these items can now come in all sorts of small and convenient shapes and sizes. Therefore, it's vital to check and double-check our pockets for items like lighters and ensure that all digital devices are stored in a safe and secure place.
Although it may seem obvious, always remember to check your pockets - no matter how small or seemingly insignificant the object inside. Don't put your property, and even your life, at risk.
