Toys ‘R’ Us Files For Bankruptcy
The largest toy store chain in the nation, Toys 'R' Us, filed for bankruptcy protection just before the 2017 holiday shopping season.
With 1,600 stores and 64,000 employees, this is one of the largest Chapter 11s ever filed by a specialty retailer. The company says that their Toys 'R' Us and Babies 'R' Us stores will remain open and the websites will be operational.
Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData Retail, said, “While today’s decision does not necessarily mean it is game over for Toys ‘R’ Us, it brings to a close a turbulent chapter in the iconic company’s history.”
