What started as a regular drive on the North Loop in Houston turned into a scene straight out of a movie for David Chairez and his coworker.

A Risky Tow Job Shocks Houston Drivers

While merging from Highway 290 on Monday, the two generator deliverymen were stunned by a jaw-dropping moment caught on video: an SUV towing a sedan with nothing but a chain — and doing it at full highway speed.

The sedan veered dangerously, swerving out of control while still attached to the SUV. Adding to the chaos, a man was spotted sitting inside the towed vehicle, while a woman driving the SUV appeared to be laughing.

Eyewitnesses Capture Chaos on the Road

Video from the scene includes startled reactions from Chairez and his coworker. “She’s going to hit that door!” one shouts as the SUV and sedan zig-zag across lanes. "What are you doing, stupid?" another yells.

Chairez later said, “It looked like a scene from Fast & Furious. That was very reckless, and that was very dangerous.”

Fortunately, no one was hurt. However, the towed car seemed to suffer additional damage, and the passenger inside certainly didn’t look like he was enjoying the ride.

Police Respond With New Details

Houston police shared an update Tuesday, confirming that the driver of the sedan, 32-year-old Dontae Brown, had broken down and didn’t have money to call a tow truck. He and his girlfriend decided to tow the vehicle themselves using a chain. During the tow, the sedan’s axle reportedly broke, explaining its erratic movements.

Brown was arrested on an unrelated warrant out of Georgia. No traffic citations were issued, but officials noted that the incident could have qualified as a violation for failure to maintain a lane, or more.

A Dangerous Lesson for Drivers

“This is not normal,” Chairez said. “Call a wrecker or someone for help. Make a complete stop. Don’t go backwards on the freeway.”

This incident serves as a reminder that cutting corners on safety can lead to dangerous — and possibly deadly — situations on the road.
