Suburban Wholesale & Supply Celebrates 40 Years Of Business In Quad Cities

40 years ago, a new business was just opening its doors for the first time. Brian Girskis converted the basement of his home into an all-in-one, full-service quality window, siding, and door retailer, Suburban Construction, which would go on to also create one of the most known jingles in the Quad Cities and beyond.

Today, the store resides in a 30,000-square-foot complex and is the leading retailer for windows, siding, and doors for both retail and in-home sales. Now, not just offering windows, siding, and doors, the business has expanded to wholesale supply of all sorts of construction supplies, running two businesses under one roof.

Suburban Wholesale & Supply is one of the largest distributors of wholesale siding, windows, and doors to homebuilders, contractors, and remodelers.

Brian's son, JR, runs the business now and shares the same love for it that his dad did. It's been his place of work since he was just 12 years old, picking up trash and mowing the yard outside. His high school days would take him door-to-door, drumming up business.

After an education at the University of Iowa, he started full-time in the business. "I took every sales class, and hands-on training activity and wanted to immerse myself into knowing everything about home improvement," JR told Muscatine Journal.

Today, JR is not just a proprietor, but he's also an instructor. One so well regarded, that he has people driving 7-10 hours just to take classes in the training center at Suburban's newest location at 3602 N. Harrison Street.
