Are Slipknot About to Reveal Their New Masks?
Speculation increased that Slipknot are about to reveal their new masks after the band’s website was updated to feature a teaser video and a counter that runs to 0516, suggesting the date will be Thursday, May 16.
With an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live scheduled for the following day, and the band’s sixth album set for release on Aug. 9, fans noted that while the looping video includes mostly archive material, a few scenes appear to show closeups of new masks.
You can watch the video below.
In 2014, frontman Corey Taylor explained why he and some of his bandmates choose to change their masks significantly with each album cycle, while other members prefer to only slightly modify theirs.
"For me, the mask is a representation of the person on the inside, and nobody stays the same over time – that's my belief,” he told Loudwire.
Referring to the headgear he designed for their newest LP at the time, 2014's .5: The Gray Chapter, he noted that "with every album, my mask has evolved, so this one, specifically, is supposed to represent the person behind the mask, but then the person behind that person, which is one of the reasons why it's two pieces, and you can peel the one off, and it's still a representation. So it's almost like having two different faces, but it's the same person.”
Taylor also recently confirmed that he had undergone surgery on his knees. "Soon I’ll be worth Six Million Dollars!!” he joked. He said he’ll be “back onstage in no time” after doctors gave him the all-clear once they “cleaned up a bunch of stuff in there.”
