Santa Impersonator Arrested in New Jersey on Child Endangerment Charges
A New Jersey man who frequently appeared as “Santa Claus” at community events has been arrested on charges involving child pornography and child endangerment. Mark Paulino, 64, was taken into custody Friday at his Hamilton Township home. Neighbors said they were stunned to see police and a SWAT team swarm the residence.
Neighbors Shocked by Accusations
“It wasn't until we saw Mark taken away that we realized something was going on with him,” said neighbor Kim Clayton. “He was such a nice guy. He played Santa. We knew he was a teacher. It was kind of disappointing.” Paulino, known locally as “Santa Mark,” promoted holiday appearances on his website, offering what he called “a little extra Christmas magic.” He is also a retired elementary school teacher from the Hamilton Township School District. Residents say the allegations were the last thing they expected.

Authorities Detail Allegations
Investigators say they were alerted to possible illegal online activity on Thursday and moved quickly because of Paulino’s regular interactions with children. Court documents claim he filmed a child in a bedroom and sent the video to himself or someone else.
Community Reacts
“It’s a terrible thing to hear about, especially this time of the year,” said Gina Welsh of Hamilton Township. “I have grandsons and it’s a sad thing.” Another resident added, “This is one holiday surprise nobody wanted.”
Paulino remains in custody and is scheduled for a detention hearing on Tuesday, where prosecutors will argue he should stay jailed during the case.
