Illinois Man Waved a Gun Around Because He Thought Women Would Find It Sexy
Well, here’s one way NOT to flirt.
A man in Rockford is facing serious charges after police say he was hanging out the window of an SUV early Friday morning, waving a rifle around because he thought it would improve his romantic odds. Spoiler alert: it did not.
Man Says He Waved a Rifle Out a SUV Window to Impress Women
Around 12:30 a.m., Rockford officers were called to the 200 block of West State Street after a report came in about a man leaning out of a black SUV, gun in hand. When police arrived, 27-year-old Sabah Bonilla walked right up to them and admitted he had been in the vehicle. Officers immediately spotted a black Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 on the back seat, a gun designed to look like an AR-15.
Rifle and Ammo Found
Police say they also discovered a magazine holding thirty .22-caliber rounds stuffed in Bonilla’s left pant leg near his ankle. That’s one place to keep it, but probably not the most comfortable. He was arrested on the spot.
His Reasoning? Trying to Impress
When questioned, Bonilla reportedly told officers that he had the gun “because he was attempting to have sexual relations with the female occupants of the vehicle.” Charging documents say he went on to explain that “he thought having the firearm would increase his chances of success as he believed women liked these things.” Not exactly the romantic strategy anyone was hoping for.
Facing Charges Again
Bonilla has been charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon. He also has four previous weapons-related convictions. His next court hearing is scheduled for December 16, according to the sheriff’s office.
Ladies, let this be a public service announcement: flowers still go over better than firearms.
