Rare Goalie Fight During A Whole Team Brawl – Quad City vs Roanoke
If you blinked this past weekend, you missed all the drama. The Quad City Storm headed into Roanoke for a two-game set against the Rail Yard Dawgs, and what followed was flying gloves, rare goalie fights, and a historic performance from one star player.
Friday Night Fever: The Rare Goalie Brawl
Friday night in Roanoke started off rough. After a grueling 12-hour bus trip, jumping right onto the ice, the Storm found themselves on the wrong side of an 8-0 blowout, but the score was only half the story. A huge fight broke out in the 3rd period, and every player was getting action, INCLUDING the goalies.
In a sport where goaltenders usually stay in their crease, Storm goalie Josh Rosenzweig and Roanoke’s Gabe Rosek decided they’d seen enough from the sidelines. The two netminders met at center ice and dropped the mitts, sending the crowd (and the internet) into a frenzy. The Storm weren't going down without a fight.
Saturday’s Revenge: Devin Sanders Makes History
On Saturday night, the Storm flipped the script entirely, crushing Roanoke 8-1.
The star of the show was undoubtedly Devin Sanders. Sanders scored five goals in a single game, setting a new Quad City Storm franchise record and tying the all-time SPHL record. He found the back of the net just 63 seconds into the game and didn't stop until he’d single-handedly dismantled the Roanoke defense.
The Biggest Party of the Year: $1 Beer Night is HERE!
If you think the action on the road was wild, wait until you see what’s happening back home at the Vibrant Arena at The MARK this weekend.
On Saturday, February 28th, it’s the legendary Union Trades Night, which means the return of the fan-favorite $1 domestic beers. It’s officially the biggest game of the season, and it’s expected to be a total sellout. As if $1 beers weren't enough, Sunday, March 1st follows up with Game Day, featuring board games on the concourse and interactive trivia.
